Programmers of the world, unite!
Are you a young programmer looking to build up your resume or an experienced digital architect who could help out a transformational new effort? Are you a problem-solver who wants to make big lasting changes? Tucked away in the rugged South Caucasian mountains of Tbilisi, Georgia (the country, not the state!), Radarami is searching the globe for talented programmers, designers, architects and other experts to join our Digital Advisory Board who can help us find an innovative, techy solution to our problem.
First, a bit about us:
Radarami is a small non-profit organization with a big vision. We are dedicated to bringing the most important English-language non-fiction books to a Georgian audience, and to connecting curious Georgians with one another. Our aim is to create a big community around many small neighborhood-based communities, each and all around books. We publish new books that are topical, important, and in high-quality translation and sell them at a heavily subsidised price in bookstores throughout the country or distribute them for free in libraries and other public spaces. Our dream is for thousands of Georgians to have access to big international ideas, debating the issues and listening to each other.
Radarami is about more than just publishing and distributing books, however. Our ultimate goal is to create a network of intellectually curious Georgians from around the country, including from the most remote mountain regions. We want these Georgians to have a way to communicate with one another- a platform to discuss Radarami books and organize their own local book events and clubs.

Sounds great, right? Here’s the problem:
The Republic of Georgia is located between Europe and Asia, amid often hostile empires. The country is emerging from a long period of imperial domination, but is isolated by its ancient language, harsh mountainous terrain, substandard infrastructure and rural poverty. This has caused many Georgian communities and villages to develop in isolation from global conversations. Despite this, the country has one of the highest literacy rates in the world, and many outside of the more metropolitan and plugged-in capital city of Tbilisi are interested in gaining a richer understanding of what the world is talking about. Georgians in remote areas also find themselves seriously disadvantaged by a widespread lack of internet availability. Consequently, Radarami is seeking to pioneer new methods of reaching out to these populations. And the fact driving us is this: while Georgians in remote areas may not have access to the internet, most do have cellphones.
This is where you come in:
Radarami is looking for guidance to develop an innovative and ground-breaking SMS system that will connect Georgians from all over the country and allow them to communicate with one another via mobile phones. We are trying to make the most of the technical revolution, but we can’t do it alone. We need people with ideas and experience. More than experience, however, we need people who are builders, problem-solvers, pioneers- people who can help us to imagine and create this new tool that will make a positive difference in the lives of thousands of Georgians.
In the end, it comes down to this: we have a good idea and a good cause, and you have the technical know-how to make it happen.
